The artlink Art Detour turns 20!

This two day art event will take place March 8 and 9. Art Detour hours  are 10am - 6pm on Saturday the 8rd and 12 noon - 6pm on Sunday the 9th. Here is a map of the event!

Reported to be the largest, most well attended art event of its kind in the country, Art Detour had its start as an artists’ open studio tour in the spring of 1989. This is the event that started it all! 

If you are interested in participating in ArtDetour, here is the application.

Participation Fees:

Each year Artlink, Inc. volunteers raise part of the overall cost to produce Art Detour through sponsorships and donations; the remaining cost is shared by the participating venues and artists in the form of participation fees. These costs include printing, shuttle charter, insurance and advertising.

Shuttle service between participating venues is provided during Art Detour as a free service to the public.

Shuttle service will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 9. Shuttles will run in continuous loops on four routes with “neighborhood” stops, similar to First Friday shuttle service. Shuttle service costs are included in the participation fee. Venues that are located outside of the “high density” boundaries (between 7th Ave. and 7th St., McDowell and Washington, and along Grand Avenue; please see map) will pay a slightly higher rate, but will receive shuttle service with no additional fee.

Artist Studio:

The Artist Studio category is intended for artists with working studio space in downtown Phoenix. No more than three artists per Artist Studio listing. Artist Studio listings will include one color image in the brochure and one piece in the Art Detour group exhibition.

High Density Location: $70.00 for primary artist Outlaying Location: $110.00 for primary artist Either Location: + $35.00 per artist for up to 2 additional artists

Art Space:

The Art Space category is intended for venues that regularly exhibit artwork including alternative art spaces, art galleries, museums and other cultural venues with regular changing exhibitions of artwork. Art Space listing includes one color image and one piece in the Art Detour group exhibition. This category also includes “Multiple Studio” locations (i.e. more than one studio at the same address).Multiple studios will receive a single brochure listing under the building or group name, a single color image in the brochure and one piece in the Art Detour group exhibition. Each individual artist in a multiple studio location that wishes to have a separate listing must fill out an additional application and pay appropriate Artist Studio fees.

High Density Location: $130.00 Outlaying Location: $170.00

Mystery Gallery:

This program is intended for artists without exhibition space in downtown Phoenix. Mystery Gallery artists receive 7 to 10 linear feet of display space in one of the Mystery Gallery venues for Art Detour weekend. Mystery Gallery artists will be listed with the location where their work will be on display. Mystery Gallery space is limited 20 artists and will be designated on a first come, first served basis. Each Mystery Gallery location will be a shuttle stop. PLEASE NOTE: The Mystery Gallery option is available for individual artists only. All Mystery Gallery artists must be current Artlink, Inc. members.

Mystery Gallery fee: $75.00

Advertising:

A limited number of panels in the brochure will be sold for advertising. Ads will be sold in quarter panel increments. Up to four quarter panels can be combined to make larger ads. Advertising rates are discounted 50% for participating artists and venues listed in the brochure.

All ad artwork must be provided complete on CD, 300 dpi, CMYK; PDF, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Quark files.

Additional design fees may apply to any ads that require additional design work, resizing or conversion. Artlink reserves the right to reject any advertisement in its sole discretion.

Participant Rate Non-Participant Rate 1/4 Panel = 3.50” x 2” $70 $130

Kids’ Detour:

Kids’ Detour is a special art experience for young children and their families with hands on art activities at the Burton Barr Central Library and a fun passport kids can get stamped at participating “family friendly” venues. If you would like your venue to be listed as an official Kids’ Detour destination you must show only PG-rated work and be willing to stamp Kids’ Detour passports. There is not additional cost.

Please type or print clearly and legibly exactly as you want the information to appear in the brochure; do not use all capital letters.

While Artlink, Inc. will make all reasonable efforts to ensure that information is reproduced accurately, under no circumstances will Artlink, Inc. accept responsibility for any errors or omissions. Applicants may self-select the category they believe to be most appropriate for their listing. However, final designation of the applicable category for each listing and the applicable fee is in the sole discretion of Artlink, Inc. If you wish to be listed under multiple categories, you must fill out all appropriate sections of the application for each listing and pay the required fees. Any listings or advertisements received without the applicable fees will not be included. The 2007 Art Detour brochure will be a four-color publication. Each listing, with the exception of Mystery Gallery listings will include one full color image. The image should represent the type of work displayed at the venue or the venue itself. Digital images must be PDF, Quark, Photoshop or Illustrator files; CMYK, 300 dpi, approximately 2x3 inches. Color slides or photographs may be submitted but will require an additional fee of $5.00 for scanning..

It's countdown time!!!!! The 20th Annual Art Detour begins this Saturday. Start at the Burton Barr Library on Central Avenue, pick up a map, catch one of 3 free shuttles, and explore all the best that the Downtown Arts and Culture Community has to offer. We're proud of our Kids Detour - shuttle stops to participating spaces with free arts projects for children, and art for the adults to enjoy. Bring your stamped Kid's Detour Passport back to the Library for a free gift.

artlink inc. is one of the oldest artist-run, all volunteer arts organizations in downtown Phoenix.  Since 1989, we have Phoenix's biggest annual artwalk, Art Detour.  In 1994, we began the monthly First Fridays artwalk, which has grown to become the largest monthly artwalk in the United States.  With 100 arts venues open free to the public each month, artlink's First Fridays has succeeded in bringing people back to downtown Phoenix.
